How Do I Get My Prayers Answered? The Power of Moving from Generalities to Specifics

Have you ever felt like your prayers simply disappear into the wind?

You find a quiet moment, you pour out your heart, and you ask God for “blessings,” “guidance,” or “strength.” But then, a week goes by, a month passes, and you’re left wondering: Is He listening? Did anything actually change?

The truth is, many of us struggle to see God’s hand in our lives—not because He isn’t moving, but because we haven’t created a benchmark for a miracle.

The Trap of the “General Prayer”

We often pray in generalities because it feels “safe.” If we pray for “health” and nothing specific happens, we aren’t disappointed. But when we pray broad prayers, we miss the opportunity for specific breakthroughs.

Think about it: If you ask God to “make you healthier,” and a week passes, it’s difficult to point to a specific moment and say, “That was Him.” But when you shift your heart toward specificity, everything changes. When you pray, “Father, please lower my A1C levels,” or “Lord, give me the strength to forgive my sister for what she said yesterday,” you are no longer just casting wishes into the sky. You are laying down a marker. You are inviting the Creator of the Universe into the specific details of your day.

Why Specificity Matters

In my years of ministry, I’ve found that the most “powerful” prayer warriors aren’t the ones with the loudest voices, but the ones with the most attentive hearts. Specificity does three things:

  1. It Builds Expectation: When you ask for something specific, you start looking for the answer.
  2. It Increases Gratitude: It’s easy to overlook a general blessing. It’s impossible to ignore a specific answer to a specific cry.
  3. It Creates a Legacy: You begin to see a pattern of God’s faithfulness over time.

Stop Wondering, Start Tracking

If you want to see your prayers answered, you must move from vague intentions to bold petitions. You need a way to document the conversation you are having with God.

This is exactly why I created the Journal of Answered Prayer.

I realized that most prayer journals on the market provide nothing more than a blank page. For many, a blank page is intimidating—it doesn’t offer the accountability we need to stay consistent. The Journal of Answered Prayer is different. It is a spiritual tool designed to help you:

  • Define Your Requests: Move past generalities and document exactly what you are asking for.
  • Track the Timeline: Note the dates of your petitions so you can observe God’s timing—whether His answer is “Yes,” “No,” or “Wait.”
  • Record the Answers: Dedicated space to document exactly how and when God responded.

Build Your Own “Wall of Remembrance”

The Bible often speaks of “Stones of Remembrance”—physical markers meant to remind God’s people of His past faithfulness. On difficult days, when God feels silent, you need a “Wall of Remembrance” to look back on.

When you flip through the pages of this journal, you won’t just see your handwriting; you’ll see evidence. You’ll see page after page of proof that the King of Kings is listening to you.

Are you ready to stop praying in generalities and start seeing results?

Don’t let another prayer disappear into the wind. Start tracking the evidence of His goodness today.
