FAQs for Evangelism: Answers for Christians

Got Questions? We’ve Got Biblical Answers

Whether you’re just starting your evangelism journey or have been sharing the Gospel for years, it’s natural to have questions. This section provides biblical wisdom and practical advice from Pastor Jason to help you navigate common challenges in evangelism.

The key to sharing the Gospel without coming across as pushy is to be genuine and sensitive to the other person’s openness. Focus on building a relationship first, listen more than you speak, and ask thoughtful questions to understand their perspective. Look for natural opportunities in conversations to share your faith, rather than forcing it. Be respectful of their space and recognize when to step back. Remember, the Holy Spirit is the one who opens hearts; your role is to plant seeds with love and patience. Have them share their story first and listen in the exact same way you want them to listen to you when it’s your turn.

Don’t take it personally —it’s not a reflection on you, but rather a response to the message. It’s important to remember that not everyone will be receptive to the Gospel, and that’s okay. Continue to love, pray for, and be there for the person. Often, seeds are planted that may grow later. Trust that God’s timing is perfect, and your kindness and consistency in how you live out your faith can speak volumes even when words are not enough.

In the workplace, it’s crucial to be respectful and sensitive to professional boundaries. Focus on living out your faith through integrity, kindness, and a positive attitude. Look for opportunities to build genuine friendships, listen to colleagues, and offer support during challenging times. Share your faith naturally when conversations about life, struggles, or hope arise. If someone expresses interest, you can invite them to church or offer to pray for
them. Let your actions reflect Christ, and be patient in waiting for open doors to share more directly.

When sharing the Gospel, aim to communicate these core points clearly and simply:
- God’s Love: God loves everyone and desires a relationship with us (John 3:16).
- Our Sin: All have sinned and are separated from God (Romans 3:23).
- Jesus’ Sacrifice: Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins and rose again to offer eternal
life (Romans 5:8, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
- Our Response: We need to repent, believe in Jesus, and commit to following Him (Acts
2:38, Romans 10:9).
- God’s Promise: Accepting Jesus leads to a transformed life and eternal hope (John 10:10).

Start by showing genuine interest in people’s lives. Ask about their passions, struggles, and what they value most. Be a good listener and offer help when they’re in need. As trust grows, people are more likely to share deeper parts of their lives, opening doors for meaningful conversations. Be open about your own experiences, including how your faith has shaped you. By sharing your journey naturally, you create opportunities for others to
ask questions about your faith.

Some common misconceptions include:
- Christians are judgmental: Emphasize that true Christianity is about love, grace, and humility.
- Faith is blind: Share how the Christian faith is based on historical evidence, reason, and personal experiences.
- Religion is just a set of rules: Explain that Christianity is about a relationship with God, not just following rules.
- God only cares about good behavior: Highlight that God’s love is unconditional, and salvation is by grace through faith, not by works.
- The Bible is outdated: Share how its principles are timeless and still relevant to modern life.

Respect and understand the cultural backgrounds of those you’re speaking with. Whenever possible, do your research before you speak with them. Avoid using Christian jargon or making assumptions. Focus on the universal aspects of the Gospel—love, hope, forgiveness, and purpose—that resonate with people from all backgrounds. Be patient and approach conversations with humility, recognizing that everyone’s spiritual journey is different. Your sensitivity and willingness to listen can create a more open and meaningful dialogue.

Your personal testimony is not preaching principles; it’s telling a story – a true personal story about one thing that happened. It’s one of the most powerful tools in evangelism because it’s unique to you and can’t be argued against. Sharing how God has worked in your life makes the Gospel relatable and real to others. Focus on the transformation God has brought, the peace and purpose you’ve found, and how He’s helped you through challenges.
Keep it concise and emphasize that what God has done for you, He can do for them too.

Fear is natural, but remember that your identity is rooted in Christ, not in others’ opinions. Pray for boldness, courage, and sensitivity. Reflect on the eternal impact of sharing the Gospel; the message of salvation is worth overcoming fear. Start small by sharing with
people you’re comfortable with, and gradually step out of your comfort zone. Trust that God is with you and will give you the words to speak (Matthew 10:19-20).

Here are a few ideas:

- Acts of Kindness: Use small acts of kindness to show God’s love and create opportunities to share your faith.
- Social Media: Share inspiring stories, Bible verses, or personal reflections on your social platforms.
- Gifts: Give out Bibles, Christian books, or encouraging notes with scripture.
- Community Involvement: Get involved in local events, volunteer work, or community service projects to build relationships and open doors for conversations.
- Celebrate Milestones: Use special occasions like birthdays or holidays to share how God has blessed you.
- Ask Questions: Simply asking someone about their beliefs can open the door to a deeper conversation.
